Any time you want some extra advice or support in your infant feeding journey.

The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and continued breastfeeding for the first 2 years of life. It is hard to say how many breastfeeding dyads actually meet these recommendations. Sometimes breastfeeding goes smoothly. Sometimes it is fraught with challenges.

A Cochrane review is a review of lots of high-quality studies on a subject. The authors draw conclusions from the information from the various studies to come to a stronger conclusion about the subject under investigation.

A new Cochrane review released in 2022 looked at 116 studies and found that breastfeeding support was helpful to lengthen the period of breastfeeding. They found: “Providing women with extra organised support helps them breastfeed their babies for longer. Breastfeeding support may be more helpful if it has 4-8 scheduled visits. There does not appear to be a difference in who provides the support (i.e. professional or non-professional) or how it is provided (face-to-face, phone, digital technologies or combinations). Indeed, different kinds of support may be needed in different geographical locations to meet the needs of the people within that locality.”

This review does not promise that having extra support will ensure that you can breastfeed your baby for longer, but it is suggests that having support during the breastfeeding journey may increase the length of breastfeeding for you and your baby.

I would love to be part of your support team to help you reach the breastfeeding goals you have set for you and your baby.
